Gubernatorial candidate Gary Rabine (R) described as 'chaos' Gov. Pritzker's willingness to loosen mask restrictions everywhere but in schools.
"Illinois kids and parents go into day five of JB Pritzker’s mask mandate mess," Rabine said in a post to his campaign website. "Today, he will compound the chaos by beginning to lift the mandate for the general public but keep it in place for schools. Other states, including those with Democratic Governors, have figured this out."
Rabine then questioned Pritzker's priorities and his legacy.
"But when politics, not people, are your main concern as Governor, this is what happens," Rabine posted. "COVID chaos and a crime epidemic are Pritzker’s legacy. It’s time to take our state back."
At the beginning of February, a judge in Sangamon County issued a temporary restraining order against Pritzker, the IDPH and multiple school districts effectively ending – at least temporarily – the mask, testing and vaccination mandates for schools
In her 29-page order, Judge Raylene Grischow said school districts should not be ordered to require masks for their students and teachers outside of situations where a quarantine order has been issued by the local health department.
Despite these setbacks, Pritzker has promised to fight against the ruling. He said the state Attorney General's Office has filed an appeal.
Meanwhile, Pritzker said that the state's indoor mask mandate would be repealed by the end of the month.
